Love all the Morricone from this period, and love giallo scores in general. I remember back in the '70s turning the lights down low and making all my stoned friends listen to that second side of THE RED TENT (some 25 minutes long, as I recall) with that brilliant use of morse code. The use of morse code in Red Tent kicks butt. I should have stated "Argento giallo trilogy".

I haven't heard this in 10 years, I might find it more tolerable now.Īctualy Morricone did 5 scores for Argento, the first 3 are very experimental and dissonant indeed (The Bird With the Crystal Plumage, Il Gatto a Nove Code, Four Flies) but the more recent 2, The Sthendal Syndrome and (specially) The Phantom of the Opera are far more melodic. I think I just don't dig the throbbing bass and freeform jazz stuff. I do very much enjoy the experimental aspects of his score to The Red Tent, The Island, Orca, Moses, etc. I agree with the main theme - a beautiful piece. I'd have to be in a specific mood to be able to listen to the whole album without stopping - something i've never done. I like some Alex North brass in my dissonance! I enjoy experimental scores, but these seem a little monochromatic to me.

Personally I take no pleasure in either 3 of his Dario Argento scores. This score can be described as a musical portray of psychological pain and anguish. I enjoy Morricone's experimental writing. General Discussion: Morricone - Il Gatto A Nove Code FSM Board: Morricone - Il Gatto A Nove Code
